Transitional Housing

Approximately, 10-20% of returning citizens are released from prison without a home plan. Most rely on families and friends and others on homeless shelters. Residential stability during the high-risk period immediately following release from prison is critical. Stable and supportive housing is a major factor that increases returning citizens’ access to treatment and services as well as reduces recidivism.

The Village Initiative Inc. Transitional Housing is a sober living program for individual men and women coming out of incarceration. While reintegrating back into society, they experience barriers and challenges in navigating their community. The Village Initiative provides a one-stop-shop for reentry needs with an average of 18 months in the program. With long-term housing and wraparound services, such as documents, addiction and mental health counseling, mentoring, case management, employment, and personal development skills, our clients can successfully integrate back into our communities.

The Future

The Village Initiative is building four more transitional houses. Watch the KCTV5 spot here.
