My name is Michaela Hekekia. I am 43 years old. I came home from federal prison in August of 2022. I came into The Village Initiative, broken, not able to find employment, not knowing who I was as an individual or even a woman. I was in the village every day. I started working with Ms. Kiddy, our case manager, to do a case plan. I started to attend our cognitive behavior thinking classes and substance abuse classes. I also attend life recovery meetings and CA meetings that we offer in the village. The love that I received from everyone in the village as soon as I walked in was absolutely amazing. They accept you right where you are and help you to get where you would like to go! I now love myself more than I have ever loved myself, as an individual and as a woman. I’m so grateful to be a part of the next phase to help other women and men know that they are important, and they can still make something of themselves.
